About Jane Ramachandran

My art "career" officially began in the fall of 2010 when I enrolled in a watercolor class taught by Kate Fitzsimons sponsored by San Diego Continuing Education classes mostly for seniors 55+.    Then in the spring of 2011, I enrolled in the Portraiture Class and in the fall of 2011 in the Landscape and Still Life class--both classes taught by Perrietta Hester who retired this year.  I always liked art through the school years and Perrietta inspired me to a higher level to continue with other instructors.    I became a member of the San Diego Portrait Society.  I had the opportunity with other students to participate in a show "Figuratively Speaking" at the La Jolla Art Gallery in 2011.  I am a member of the Clairemont Art Guild.  Since Perrietta retired this year, I have four new instructors whom I find very challenge.  Contact Jane at: 858-467-1557.

About Helen Renevitzz

Helen is a native of New Jersey and had her early art training in the Philadelphia area. Always drawn to art, she spent many memorable hours touring the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia Museum of Art, where an exhibition in the 1950's of Picasso's paintings and ceramics filled several rooms and made a lasting impression on her imagination.

During a hectic career of teaching and mothering three children (two with disabilities), she finally completed a Master's Degree at San Diego State University, where art influenced even the subject matter for her thesis: "Sin" as Art in the works of Chaucer and other medieval poets.

Retirement finally freed her to work on her painting skills, taking classes with Concetta Antico in La Jolla, Cathy Carey in Escondido, Daniel Ochoa in Coronado, and Olya Losina and Pat Kelly at the Athenaeum in La Jolla.

Twice her paintings have earned First and Third place in oils at the Senior Art Show at the San Diego Civic Center and she has been juried into shows at the San Diego Art Institute and the Southwestern Art Gallery in La Jolla.

Her award-winning work has been exhibited in public and private showings from Newport, Rhode Island to La Jolla, California. Some of her paintings now hang in private collections in Arizona, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and California.

She is affiliated with the Associated Fine Artists, in San Diego; the Claremont Art Guild, and the Athenaeum in La Jolla.

My goal with my art is to share the gentle beauty of nature and creatures. I focus my work on animals and plein air landscape, employing the softer mediums of art. I love the impressionistic quality of pastel, one of the oldest mediums; the unique  combination of precision and impetuousness in ancient Chinese brush painting; the serendipity of watercolor; and the strict discipline of calligraphy. I particularly enjoy melding these disparate disciplines.
